Lawn Aeration Services

The predominant soil in the Portland metropolitan area is clay. The major problem associated with clay soils is the level of compaction that it experiences over time. This compaction prevents nutrients from getting to the roots of the grass, thus causing weak root growth and eventually thinning grass. When this occurs, a multitude of unwanted grass types as well as moss will begin to invade the lawn area.

The process of core-aeration is the most cost effective method to improve the lawn's soil without destroying the grass. Holes, created by core-aeration, provide easy access to the root zone for water, air and fertilizer. The holes also create space in the soil which helps combat compaction.  Along with this, the plugs that are pulled provide a great topdressing for the turf areas and help to return nutrients back into the soil.

Generally aeration is done during the spring or in the fall. For the best results we generally recommend that the aeration be completed in the spring prior to the warm weather.

If you are interested in having your yard aerated, please contact your area manager, or send an email to the main office.
